(Delray Beach, Florida) --- February 21st, 2015
By O. Hernandez, FHR Station Manager
It was a partly cloudy sky in Delray Beach. A small beach town on the East Coast of Florida with a population of just under 62,000. But nested in the middle of this small town USA is a rock band that will blow your socks off.
When we think about Rock Bands we imagine the likes of Eddie Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Bon Jovi and even Guns N' Roses of the 80's music scene.
But this band is composed of a newer generation of rock musicians and I am not talking about 30 – 40 year olds rocking it out. I am talking about a group of pre-teen musicians in the 10-12 age group.
They go by the Band Name “KRUSH” and “KRUSHING” the stage is what they do best. They are led in part by the lead singer, a 10 year old named Ben Meller. Followed by the lead guitarist 10 year old Nicholas “Nicky” Rothschild. Twelve year old Samuel “Sam” North is their Bass Player and backup vocals and putting it all together is the drummer 11 year old Tristan Yeager.
It was the winter of 2013 when Brad Rothschild, the parent of guitarist Nicholas wanted to find exceptionally talented musicians to play with their son. Picking each member of the band, Brad and his wife were able to form KRUSH. All the members met at the School of Rock in Lake Worth, Florida.
FHR Radio was invited to see them perform live at the St. Vincent Festival. To truly appreciate the talent that these young musicians have one must see them live. Rock music is not what we typically play on FHR Radio. But once in a while a band comes along that catches your attention and makes you eager to find out more about who they are.
My 51 mile journey from Miami to Delray was met with bumper to bumper traffic, construction zones and even a sprinkle here and there. But I finally made it to the St.Vincent Festival grounds just in time. The parking lot was totally full but out in the distance I saw an open spot and rushed to conquer it. Interesting enough I parked right behind a silver Dodge Charger and wouldn't you know it, it had already been Krushed with a big KRUSH sticker on the trunk of the car.
Krush opened up their two set performance at 2pm local time rocking to "Feel Your Love" followed by an excellent rendition of "Rock You Like A Hurricane". Other songs in the first set included but not limited to "Communication Breakdown" and "Crazy Train". After a 15 minute break they came back on stage opening their second set with a Rock and Roll Drum Solo by drummer Tristan Yeager followed by another excellent performance to "Barracuda". Followed by "Joker And The Thief" and "Panama" closing the set with an Encore "Round N Round"
Check out the following two amatuer videos taken by band member parents Celine North and Howard Yeager.
